Pink Floyd have secured this year’s Official Christmas Number 1 album with Wish You Were Here, marking a remarkable full circle moment for the band.
The achievement comes as part of the Wish You Were Here 50th anniversary reissue, released across digital and physical formats and featuring six previously unreleased alternate versions and demos. Astonishingly, it has been exactly 50 years since the album first topped the Official Albums Chart in 1975.
With this latest Number 1, Pink Floyd now hold the record for the longest gap between their first and most recent chart-topping albums, spanning over 50 years and surpassing the previous record held by The Beatles.
This also marks the band’s second Number 1 album of the year, following Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII, making 2025 the first time the group have claimed two Number 1 albums in a single year.
Adding to the milestone, Wish You Were Here also tops the Official Album Vinyl Chart and the Official Record Store Chart this week, leading sales in UK independent record shops.
Fifty years on, one of the greatest English rock bands of all time continues to shine.
