Watch 374 bagpipe players break world record with AC/DC tribute

Melbourne made history on the 12th when Fed Square filled with the sound of more than three hundred bagpipers performing in unison. Pipers of all ages arrived throughout the afternoon, tuning up across the plaza as crowds gathered to watch the attempt to set a new world record for the largest bagpipe ensemble.

At 5:10 the group launched into a mass performance of It’s a Long Way to the Top, turning the heart of the city into a wall of sound. The final count reached 374 pipers, surpassing the previous record and marking a major moment for both the local pipe community and AC/DC fans celebrating the band’s return to Australia.

The atmosphere was electric. Kilts, tartans, and school uniforms mixed with rock shirts and tourists who stumbled onto a once-in-a-lifetime scene. What began as a simple record attempt became a loud, joyful celebration of Melbourne’s music culture and one of the most memorable moments of the week.
